The Dictionary of Imaginary Places
by Alberto Manguel and Gianni Guadalupi
Illustrated by Graham Greenfield. Maps and charts by James Cook. A Harvest/HBJ Book/Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers, New York. 1987 (Expanded Edition). Trade paperback. 454 pages. (8½ X 11¾). Foreword by Alberto Manguel. The foreword sets up the criteria for inclusion. This title seems to be a cross between the book by J. B. Post, The Atlas of Fantasy, and the one by Brian Stableford, The Dictionary of Science Fiction Places. It is definitely more scholarly than these two titles. Places of the future and outer space were excluded from this volume.
